The Art of Law

Every endeavor
has its own art, whether it’s hitting
a baseball, writing
a symphony,
or handling a lawsuit. In the
legal arena there’s an art to envisioning solutions where others see problems. It has
to do with understanding how to resolve matters in a way that benefits each client. It has to do with the art of helping clients contain problems and expand opportunities..

Carrington Coleman's intellectual property practice group counsels clients in matters involving patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade dress, trade secret, false advertising, unfair competition, entertainment and technology. We have significant experience litigating cases alleging patent, trademark, copyright, or trade dress infringement as well as claims for misappropriation of trade secrets, false advertising or unfair competition. We work closely with other Carrington Coleman lawyers in related practice areas.

We assist clients with the development of strategic plans designed to protect intellectual property portfolios and enhance the future value of intellectual property assets. We regularly represent clients in obtaining trademark and copyright registrations and in contested administrative proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, including opposition, cancellation, and interference proceedings. We assist clients with drafting and negotiating contracts and licenses involving trademark, copyright, trade dress, and trade secret rights, including franchise agreements, computer software licensing agreements, proprietary information and confidentiality agreements, merchandising contracts, book publishing contracts, and various entertainment industry contracts.

Our clients are in many industries, including computer systems, computer software, electronic data management, high technology, communications, broadcasting, amusement, entertainment, multimedia, photography, publishing, food, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, advertising, financial services, insurance, professional services, real estate development, health care, medical products, skin care, manufacturing, construction, automobiles, textiles, consumer products, retail, and hotel services.
